Streamline beauty

This former Publix Supermarket, a Streamline Moderne beauty, was built in the early 1950s. It has also housed a thrift shop and now, this hairstyling academy. Read its history here. There are three other former vintage Publix stores in St Petersburg that are now being used for other purposes. I'll try to capture them in later posts.

Did Publix go out of business or just out of business some places? My son lives in Florida and that's where he shopped. Or used to shop, depending on your answer.

Publix is still in business, and is very healthy, too. They moved out of these smaller freestanding stores in order to expand their merchandise and service. The old stores didn't have room for pharmacies, wine shops, sushi bars or any of the extras you see in 'modern' supermarkets!
