My father's Great Uncle, Frank Allen, was the founder of the Home Dairy Co. Cafeteria's in Florida, New York State, Pennsylvania, Michigan (with C.F. Hack and Rudy Eckert), and also Canada; between 1918 and his death in 1958 - there were 40 Home Dairy Cafeteria's not including the Michigan cafeteria's and the "Homade" Stores. My father operated three locations between 1936 and 1954 in Rochester and Olean, New York. I would be interested in any information regarding the Home Dairy Cafeteria's and very grateful.

My father, Justin L. Carr, was one of the owners of the Home Dairy in Cortland, New York. He and my mother, took over the business, 3 days before they bombed Pearl Harbor and we closed the business in 1978. I am so thankful you posted this comment as I have always wondered how the Home Dairy's got started and the history behind them. I knew they were a chain at one time. I am so very excited at finding your blog. My uncle, Carl Nicholson, owned the Home Dairy in Batavia, New York. We were friends with the owners of the Ithaca Home Dairy and also friends with the owners in the Auburn branch and Binghamton branch. WOW....I would love to discuss this with someone at their convenience. I'm just overwhelmed that I found someone associated with the Home Dairy's. Thank you so very much and looking forward to your response. Please feel free to email me at lwitty@twcny.rr.com . Linda Witty
