People let me tell you 'bout my best friend

A little birdie told me this gentleman needed a sidekick, a crony, a confidante. "Um, ahem, listen, you really should....pull your cape down a little in the back..."

A late 1920s Hoover vacuum seen at a car boot sale in St. Petersburg. According to the seller, it apparently still worked. (How well, is anyone's guess.)

Just do it - even if you're 75 years old

The Kids & Kubs Softball Team is legendary to St. Pete. It also goes by the moniker "Three-Quarter Century Softball" which means you must be a male of no less than 75 years in order to join. The team's been around at least since the 1930s when our town was well and truly the recreation capital of the nation; rumor has it Babe Ruth coached a few games while here for Spring Training. In the old days, players wore natty bow ties and long pants along with their spectacles; today the uniform is comprised of more forgiving-in-the-heat shorts and tees.

Games are played on a real dirt field in beautiful North Shore Park, on the bayfront and in the shadow of the downtown skyline.

These amazing older gents play three days a week and also actively raise money for charity. Who says you have to slow down when you become older? These young-at-heart men prove that you don't.

View a YouTube Video of the Kids & Kubs in action.

Come in, the water's fine

Lake Vista Pool, built in 1963. I love the simple block lettering of the Atomic Age. Used to swim here in the late '70s during summer camp - I was bold enough to dive off the high board back then!

Now there is this hideous-looking water slide that was installed recently. I guess if you're 8 or 9 years old, it's not hideous at all.

Heaven on earth?

From my backyard, we get the best views. This shot is from 2006, but sexy summer sunsets are a common occurrence (at least on non-rainy evenings). Looking west toward St.Pete Beach with Gulfport to the right.
