Time stood still

The bank is long gone, but its iconic clock remains at the corner of Central Avenue and MLK Street. Time stopped about 25 years ago at 12:15. A condo is slated to rise in the empty lot formerly held by the bank.

The Grande Dame of St Pete Entertainment

The Coliseum, downtown St Pete. Built in the 1920s as a dancehall, it still hosts tea dances and various other "light" shows and nostalgia events as well as the occasional wedding.

Algiers

The old Algiers Motel, built circa 1952, in Treasure Island. Rumor had it they were going to tear down this building (as they have with many classic, vintage TI motels) and build a condo. As of the other day, the Algiers still stands, minus this sign on the facade, and the diamonds have been painted pink, green and tan. Whatever.

A Mural of Smokey Joe

"Smokey" Joe Williams was a pitcher in the Negro Leagues. According to this page, no one is sure if the hurler died in 1946 or 1952, but his legend as a smokin' fastball thrower lives on. The jersey he is depicted wearing in the mural belongs to the Chicago Leland Giants, which existed in name between 1905 and 1911.
